Sometimes you want to delete a column in TextEdit or to copy a Column from Mail instead of rows. You can do this in Mac quite easily, just hold down the OPTION key (Located left of APPLE key) while making a selection. I was looking for this quite a sometime. It saved me lots of keystrokes.

Thank you for this hint. It saved me a lot of time.

Also:

To add a row: place insertion point in a cell, then option-enter.
To del a row: select a few cells in a row, then option-delete
