To play your AVCHD movie files (.mts, .m2ts) you can use one of the following options:

VLC Player (FREE)

Download VLC Player from www.videolan.com and start playing your AVCHD movies. You may required iLife 08 or 09 for playback.

Toast 9 or 10

Toast Player which is included with Toast 9 or 10 can play AVCHD files beautifully. Another advantage of Toast is fast conversion of .mts and .m2ts files to any other format you like.

i have played a .mt2s file on my mac with VLC.
I am still looking for a way to convert those files to .avi, .mov or DVD files. (Maybe Streamclip is any good.. from squared5)

greets Rob

Can you point me to mac os x (Intel) nightly build of VLC which plays .mts/.mt2s file?

To convert .mts to avi or .mov use imovie 08 and then export it to any format.

I own a CX 7 myself and found this, haven’t try it yet though

From Apple Support site, iLife08, iMovie
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014

Tapeless Camcorder Support
iMovie also supports many tapeless camcorders that record to Flash Memory, Hard Drive (HDD), and DVD media. These random access devices use a USB 2.0 cable and include camcorders that support MPEG-2 (standard definition) and AVCHD (high definition) formats.
Note: AVCHD support requires an Intel-based Mac.

Hello, guys! Here’s a fast way for watching your .mts files…
Get Toast Titanium 9. Open it and click on extras>Toast Video Player.

This will get you access to the Toast Video Player built in app that can play .mts files.

To convert .mts files to divx, dvd, bluray or hddvd, just drag the .mts files to toast window > Video.

Easy, with toast.

To convert to .mov, use VoltaicHD. (or u can use toast to divx and then divx to mov with quicktime, but the quality will suffer.

Hope it helps.

Thanks iMike for your input. I have played the same file with Toast Video Player and VLC. The VLC playback was smoother.

Hey Guys. Visual Hub will convert to any format you wish. Hope this helps. Cheers. Chris

IUsandman: No, it won´t. AVCHD is on the NOT SUPPORTED list of Visual Hub.

I don’t know about the Sony world, but iMovie ‘08 reads AVCHD from my Canon HF-10 just fine. Final Cut v4 or better does also. The quality is great, both audio and video. The problem is that AVCHD is all but non-editable, so Apple first converts these to the Apple Intermediate Coded 1080i. This makes the scrubbable, scannable, and losslessly editable, but at about 8 times the size. Pick your poison…

Hi… The best way to convert MTS files is with Toast 9. Like sais “art4people”, but you can directly convert to MOV, to any codec you want. Always go up in quality (ex. from the MTS file to MOV HDV, or MOV Uncompressed 8-bits) size will be bigger, but you will have compatibility to edit this file with Final Cut, After Effects, etc.

I have a Sony Handycam SR10, and the image is beautiful, so… I chose that way.

Adios.

ffmpeg, mplayer and vlc now play raw avchd (.mts, m2ts) files natively (mbaff seems to be supported and stable). It’s not as fast as coreavc… I’ve wrapped a bash script with a apple script and now everytime I double click a .mts I can see live video preview :)

Here’s the command I’ve put in my bash script:

mplayer -vf scale=960:540,lavcdeint -framedrop -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=2:fast:skiploopfilter=all:threads=8 -vo quartz -fps 59.94 $1

Hi, you can watch your avchd-clips if you have eyetv installed. No converting is needed.

I was unable to view my .mts files from my HG20 using EyeTV 2.5.3.

I have a Vixia HF10 and have been using Final Cut to import video using the Log and Transfer or VoltaicHD to convert my raw .MTS files…After reading this article, however, I am switching to Toast to handle my capture and conversion needs. Not only is it lightning fast, but it doesn’t try to de-interlace progressive footage like VoltaicHD does…Toast…it’s worth the purchase!
