After using iphone for four months I am back to Nokia. I have purchased N95 8GB. I missed following features on iPhone:

  1. Bluetooth send and receive of files
  2. DVD like video Recording
  3. 5 MegaPixel Camera
  4. Internal GPS and Nokia excellent Sports Tracker Application
  5. Bluetooth A2DP Profile (Stereo)
  6. Copy and Paste (Major Bummer)
  7. I can view www.bbcurdu.com (Not possible on iphone)
  8. I can stream into realplayer
  9. I can now use blacklist program
  10. Voice Recoder which records telephone calls too.
  11. Caller Name Playback when you receive call (Excellent Feature! Without picking the phone I know who is calling me)
  12. Voice Activated Calling ( Simply Speak; the phone will identify the contact and call)
  13. Picture Slide show (Pan and Zoom) with Music (Why iphone does not have this feature)
  14. Picture Editor
  15. Easy transfer of Pictures and Songs (Not through complicated iTunes)
  16. and finally lots n lots of good software and 3D games!!!

I hate Apple Closed Policy for iphone. Why don’t they open iphone as Nokia? Why are they playing hide and seek game and releasing firmware every four months?

The only feature I miss on Iphone while using Nokia is iphone Email Client and its attachment viewing and of course virtual keyboard.

SIC Software GmbH has recently released the Free FTP Client for Series 60v3 devices. I have tested the client and it works perfect. You can even specify your own ports. I also uploaded couple of photos from my N95 Memory Card. You can download this client from here. When you click this link you will arrive at the page asking for your phone number. For example if you live in pakistan and have Warid connection You can put +92321466xxxx. You will receive an SMS containing the link. Clicking on the link will start mobile web browser and then clicking on content will download and install it on your series 60v3 device.

TeaShark is a java browser 145K in size. It runs on almost all java enabled phones. Good mobile browser but still in beta. I have installed it on my N95. Very good browsing speed. You can also rotate screen to landscape. You can download it from www.teashark.com

Auto Profiles v2.0 Review September 4, 2007

I was looking for an application that will allow me to turn off bluetooth in the night and on again in the morning. The reason was simple. I use bluetooth stereo headset and automatically switching my phone bluetooth off will allow me to conserve battery. With AutoProfiles you can do that and much more.

You can also set a schedule to switch to Silent or Meeting Profile automatically or vice versa. One feature I liked most is Calendar Profiling. I use Mac iCal to schedule my meetings etc. Mac OS X Isync automatically sync my appointment/meetings with my Nokia N95. Now here comes in AutoProfile Calendar feature, which detects my meetings and switches my N95 profile automatically to Meeting Profile and then back again to General Profile. Nice Application.

You can download it from here.

If you are on the road you can connect your Macbook/Pro to Internet with your Nokia Phone.

If you are using Leopard. Then things are quite simple. Just follow Steps:

Leopard: (Tiger users see below)

Make sure GPRS is activated by your carrier.

Step 1:

From the bluetooth menu at the top right hand corner choose Setup Bluetooth Device. Click Continue on Bluetooth Setup Assistant Window. Choose Mobile Phone and Click Continue.

Step 2:

Choose your desired Mobile Phone from the next Window and click Continue.

Step 3:

Pair the phone by entering the exact code displayed on the screen.

Step 4:

Select Both Servcies that is iSync and Internet Access. Click continue.

Step 5:

Just type in your APN (Access Point). You can get this from Phone or call your Operator help line. Don’t change any thing other than APN. Also check/select: ‘Bluetooth status in menu bar’ and ‘Show Modem status in the menu bar’. Click Continue.

Step 6:

Open the Network Settings From System Preference and Select Bluetooth from Left Column

Type *99# in the Telephone Number and Click Connect.

If you using Using Tiger then follow the steps below:

Step 1:

Make sure GPRS is activated by your carrier.

Step 2:

On your phone (Symbian OS), go to

“Tools>Settings>Connection>Packet Data” in Access point enter your APN.

APN differs for every carrier. For

  • Warid Telecom: waird
  • Mobilink postpaid: connect.mobilinkworld.com
  • Mobilink prepaid: jazzconnect.mobilinkworld.com
  • Ufone: ufone.internet

For example if you are on Ufone then just type ufone.internet in Access Point
Step 3

On your Mac download this “Nokia E61 (Nokme)” script. Unzip it and copy script into “Machintosh HD/Library/Modem Scripts”

On your Mac. Click on Bluetooth Icon at top and choose “Setup Bluetooth Device”. On dialog box click the first two check box (Setup iSync….. & Access the Internet….) and click the second radio button (Use a direct….). Click Continue.

On the next dialog box Enter your username and password. For Warid Connection leave both of them blank.

In GPRS CID… Input box enter *99#

In modem script choose Nokia E61 (Nokme)

Click last two check boxes (Show Bluetooth status…. Show Modem Status….)

To connect with Internet: click on the Telephone icon at the Top and click connect. Thats it.

My N95 got problem yesterday. It display went blank or jitters and comes back after few seconds when you press keys on the display (green, red, multimedia etc). The keys on the keypad below does not effect the display.I went to Mobilezone office in Gulberg to get it repaired. According to them it is software/firmware problem. Let see what they say next. I will get it back on Sat 21 July. Will post further when I got my phone back.
Mean while I am using Nokia 6300. Its excellent phone. Highly Recommended. In many ways it is better than N95 if you use it as phone and multimedia stuff like listening music through A2DP bluetooth profile. Everything seems to be quite easy in this phone.Caller logs, Messaging and Contacts are way better in this phone as compared to N95

Update:

I go my N95 back from Mobilezone. It is working perfectly OK. May be they replaced its display because the Screen Protector is gone which I installed earlier

If you want to send your Symbian Bluetooth Application to another mobile then you have to use ActiveFile. This is the one which can send protected application to other mobile phones. It has also two tabs at the top just like old Norton Commander two panes. It is very good application and it is FREE. One important thing is you need to sign this application.
